On Memorial Day Chris & I had lunch at my parents house with some family and my mom said she had some extra plants if I was interested. She had ordered a Big Boy tomato, a Grape tomato and a Green Pepper plant…which actually turned out to be FOUR of each! Oops. Well, I forgot to grab them that day but we saw everyone on Saturday afternoon when we helped move Josh & Robyn into their new place so my mom had put one of each in an ice cream bucket for me. Believe it or not, I forgot them AGAIN…but luckily Chris & I ended up back at Josh & Robyn’s that night to hang out and so I finally got the plants home that evening.

That meant that Sunday they needed to be planted. I hadn’t even started clearing a space for a garden yet so after a quick trip to Home Depot (for gardening supplies and paint supplies) I got to work. This is after I cleared away all the weeds and cut out a couple trees:

Then I spread the Miracle Grow Garden Soil that we purchased:

And Chris sowed it in with the top few inches of our regular soil:

And then I planted everything. I had the 2 tomato plants and the green pepper plant from my mom and we had purchased a cucumber plant and some onions to plant. At our couples shower we got some Spinach seeds and so just for fun I tried planting some of those as well.

And these herbs came from our CSA!

The fence was not easy to install (and this photo doesn’t show it complete…I swear we put it all the way around), but I think it will work to keep out the rabbits (hopefully). It’s a small little garden but hopefully something this newbie can handle!

PS - It’s now Tuesday & my sunburn still hurts. A lot. I haven’t been burned in YEARS and I hope it doesn’t happen again for a very long time.
