Well, 20 of my 100 days are now gone and all I can say for it is that I’m right back where I started. However, at this point I’m okay with that. Since my last weigh in I have done A LOT to improve my chances of shedding this extra weight (except for that huge meal of Chinese food on NYE…I’m trying to forget about that).
What have I done you ask? Well…let me tell you!
First, I have had no alcohol since January 2nd. Don’t get me wrong - I’m not done drinking delicious beers, but I am done having a beer or two with dinner most nights since I read this article from a blog I started following recently called Fit After Thirty. They said that when you drink alcohol your body stops burning fat because it wants to get rid of the “toxin” first. So…those late nights when you’ve had a few (or more) drinks and you think making up a frozen pizza is a good idea are the WORST! If you have been or are drinking, all those calories really are just sticking to your hips because the alcohol takes precedence. Ugh. It’s a tough thing to hear but when I googled “alcohol stops fat burning” I got plenty of results including this one and they all say the same thing. If you want to lose weight, if you want to ditch the stomach bloat, etc then you have to cut back or eliminate alcohol.
Second, I ramped up my exercise routine. I have had some form of activity 8 of the last 9 days and I feel great! Of course there are some days that I am sore, but it’s that good sore where you know you had a good workout. I printed off a blank 12 month calendar and have it sitting down by where I workout so I can keep it up to date. One of my new favorites is actually one that I have owned for a while & just never tried: Yoga Booty Ballet. I purchased the system quite a while ago and I would do the Hip Hop Abs workout but I never did the Basic one until last week & I really like it! I’m hoping that adding core specific routines will help me get my abs & lower back strengthened up and nicely toned.
Third, I am trying to eat right. As I mentioned, NYE wasn’t a great meal (it was yummy, but probably not worth the calories)…but that day I had been to Sam’s Club and I picked up all kinds of healthy yumminess and since then both Chris & I have generally been eating better. We made some vegetarian chili last weekend, we’ve had low calorie sandwiches, I’ve made green smoothies a few times this week and we’re definitely eating more fruit. It’s awesome when we can make a change like that together! A new food we’ve tried is Konjac which is a vegetable and the way that I purchased it was as noodles. Supposedly it’s pure fiber and has zero calories, zero carbs, zero fat, etc. They are tasteless noodles so you add it to any dish that has a strong flavored sauce. Chris made up some stir fry vegetables Tuesday night & we added a pack of these noodles to add substance and it turned out really good!
So, like I said, I only got back to where I started which means I’m down 2 pounds and that leaves me with 3 to lose in the next 10 days in order to get back on track. I’m hopeful that all this added activity will start to melt away the fat one of these days & I’ll be able to drop the 3 but I guess only time will tell. I definitely have my work cut out for me because in the next 10 days I am already scheduled to eat out six (yes 6!) times! Never mind the fact that it’s expensive…I’m going to have to make good choices each & every time if I’m going to have a hope of making my goal.
