We had planned on doing some yard work on Sunday, but Heroes got the best of us. We may have watched 7 episodes in a row…I lost count! It felt great to relax together on the couch all day so it was worth putting off the yard work. Late in the afternoon some major storms came through Minneapolis and its suburbs and we were wondering if our evening plans were going to be ruined. Luckily everything blew over very quickly and by 6pm the skies in south Minneapolis were clear and we were on our way. I had heard on the radio during the week that the Saints were in town this weekend and since I don’t remember ever being at a game we decided to go. The game was a LOT of fun. Most people may know about the goofy things that go on during the game, but they really are entertaining. One time between innings there was a “home run derby” where the contestants used a 3ft sub to hit the ball off of a tee. Another time other people were using a slip n slide to get ribs on a mini-grill and then for the last (very large) slab they had to side down themselves. Oh, and someone else got a trivia question wrong or something & ended up with a tub of cottage cheese on his head! The highlight for me (besides the 9-3 victory) was getting my photo taken with Wally the Beer Man! After the game there were some awesome fireworks which we enjoyed before leaving a bit early to avoid the traffic rush.
Monday we got busy with the yard work. Chris got started immediately on the what I lovingly call the jungle. The side of the yard on the alley side had become overgrown and previous owners had put in a ridiculous “retaining wall.” The retaining wall is a series of old metal business signs and railroad ties. Its’ ridiculous and Chris has worked very hard to remove a total of 5 I believe (2 on Monday) with 3 remaining. Once the jungle and wall are removed we’ll probably put in a real retaining wall and a fence. It would be nice to have some privacy in the back yard from the alley. What I was working on was removing the old compost pile and fence posts as well as some random weed management. The fence posts (for a fence I have never seen) were very deep and had a big chunk of concrete on them which was not fun to remove. After 5 hours of working outside we were ready to call it a day so Chris planted some grass seed while I picked up the remaining branches and then we crashed on the couch for…you guessed it…the final episodes of Heroes!
