This weekend was just busy enough to be relaxing while still getting out of the house. Friday night Chris and I met up with Pete and Sarah for dinner and a movie. We saw Run, Fat Boy, Run which is one movie that I had heard pretty much nothing about. Turns out it was very predictable, but also super cute!

Saturday Chris was planning on helping his friend move but that was moved to Sunday due to lack of moving truck availability. So instead we cleaned and ran some errands that need to be done. It was nice to spend the afternoon together. Saturday night Chris went off to hang out with some co-workers & play in a poker tournament which my brother and I went to First Ave to see a show. Before going our separate ways we all had a drink at Buster’s which is always enjoyable. FirstAveThe show at the 7th Street Entry was Le Loup and The Ruby Suns. I had only listened to a few songs from each group online prior to going to the show and I have to admit, my first impression was wrong. The Ruby Suns opened and I felt like they could have used one more person on stage. The group of 3 didn’t have a full time drummer but instead used a drum machine. I guess maybe I’m just old fashioned but I thought they seemed a little rushed trying to get the drum beats all going before getting into the song. Le Loup was excellent. Josh immediately mentioned that the 7 people on stage seemed a bit like Arcade Fire and he was right. They had intense energy, they all worked well together and everyone appeared to be having a good time. For a music lovers review, check out what Josh had to say about the show here.

Sunday was my relaxation time. I am participating in the Raw Diva’s Body Enlightenment System which began with a fast that was scheduled to start at 6pm on Saturday evening. Well, technically I didn’t start at 6. I was done with dinner by 7 but had a couple more beers afterwards. I feel only slightly bad about that…I still had a 19 hour fast and I think that the long haul is much more important than one mistake. So, I updated my blogs, followed up on some of the blogs I haven’t read in a while and read some of John Grisham’s The Appeal. Chris and I watched I am Legend tonight and much to my surprise, I enjoyed it. Perfect way to end the weekend, snuggled up on the couch with my man!

Earlier this month Chris & I went to a Wild game at the Xcel Energy Center. I was able to secure some tickets through the concierge at the new office building Four51 moved into. Tickets are hard to come by (every game sells out!) and we had been talking about going to a game so I was really excited to find them.

WildGameOn Monday March 17th (yep, St Patrick’s Day!) we got off work a little early and headed to St Paul. Our seats were super fun. We had rail seats on the club level which means that we didn’t have to get up to let anyone out & we were sitting up above everyone. The game was great - it was close until the end when the Avalanche pulled their goalie and the Wild were able to score on the empty net. The Wild were/are in the playoff hunt and the energy was great at the X. Wild WIN 3-1!

Major League Baseball decided to start the season in Japan with the Boston Red Sox taking on the Oakland Athletics. Apparently musician John Mayer was able to score some pretty good seats behind home plate. Thank you to Steve for passing along this great clip of Mayer’s commentary:

Is he a comedian or just a guy who knows nothing about baseball? Comedian is my guess…I am pretty sure my mom even knows enough about baseball to understand a basic at bat!

And, since I seem to be on a roll with You Tube videos…here’s a good Twins commercial that is on TV right now titled “The Sandlot”:

I think that’s my favorite so far this year. Anyone else have a different favorite? Although Santana is gone, the one with him and Joe Nathan last year was the best!

Check out this funny video. It’s a tetris game that is taking place in an auditorium. The best part is that they are not set up to win!

Tonight I worked late and Chris had to stop on his way home from work so we got a little bit of a late start. We had already talked about checking out this Greek restaurant (Michael’s Cafe…I can’t find a website for them but here’s the yahoo listing). Unfortunately, that listing does not have the current information…they are closed on Monday’s! Lucky for us there are ton’s of restaurants on Chicago in that area.

We had dinner at Pepito’s and it was very, very tasty. The only complaint I have is that my frozen strawberry margarita wasn’t the best I’ve ever had. The food…no complaints. We had Nacho Conchita’s (both chicken & black bean…black bean was better) and then i had a veggie enchilada for my meal. Once we had stuffed ourselves we decided to walk down to the Turtle Bread Bakery to take a look. I’ve been talking about trying to make homemade bread and Chris had told me that this place was probably as close to homemade as you could get without actually baking and I think he’s right! Next door is Pizza Biga which is run by the same company and they make wood fired pizzas. I’m sure we’ll go back & try that out sometime too.

Then…oh…my…goodness…we had the most amazing ice cream I’ve ever eaten in my life. Seriously…delicious! Now, it could just be that I haven’t had much ice cream lately and that I’m anxious for spring, but Pumphouse Creamery has become my favorite ice cream spot. We had Southwest MN Strawberry…yummy!

Chris & I had a fun Friday night playing cards and watching movies. We’re house sitting at my parents house & this was just what the doctor ordered as far as a relaxing night. :)
Movies we watched:
No Country for Old Men - Didn’t really like it.
Hook - Well, we didn’t actually watch this. I picked it from the Free HD Movies on Demand and Chris vetoed it. But, I own it on DVD and I LOVE IT!
Karate Kid - Yes, believe it or not, this is the first time I have watched this movie. I really, really liked it! Fun. And Mr. Miyagi is simply adorable!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On Saturday we picked right up with movies, but this time we choose movies that we had seen before. I was getting some work done and Chris was playing Sim City on his laptop.
AirplaneMovies we watched:
Major League - Always hilarious & a perfect movie to get us pumped up for the Home Opener which is in 9 days!
Airplane! - I think I have only seen Airplane! once or twice because there was a lot that I didn’t remember. This movie is funny in only the most inappropriate ways.
March 15th is a birthday for 3 awesome people in my life.
First of all, my friend Casey turned 30 this year! We’ve been friends since High School and Chris & I spent Friday night with Casey & Liz. We weren’t exactly celebrating his birthday (instead we were planning our baseball roadtrip) but Liz did get some pie. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CASEY!!
Second is my friend Jeremy. He married my friend Shelly & he turned 31 this year! Last year Chris & I drove down to St Louis to attend a surprise party Shelly planned, but this year we stuck around MN. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEREMY!!
NathanLast, but definitely not least, is my Brother-in-law Nathan. He turned 29 this year and we were able to have a family birthday lunch on Saturday. Luckily Nathan & Becky were in town for a wedding so we were able to celebrate the big day with them. HAPPY BIRTHDAY NATHAN!!
So…what a popular day. And all guys too! Fun times. :)
Phase 2 of the raccoon project was taking down the access path. We believe the raccoons used a tree to gain access to the roof and then the house so even though the raccoons have been taken away we decided to remove the tree as well. This way future raccoons and other creatures will not be able to get in. Also, in the past Chris has been told by some people that he should take down the tree for curb appeal - so that’s just another reason.
The project went really well. Chris started by taking some of the lower branches off the tree while I worked on breaking the branches into bundles of sticks. The bundles will be left out for the garbage people…hopefully they’ll take them! Once Chris was ready to use his new chain saw (yikes!) I took a break from my duties and helped him. We cut the tree down in 2 parts because it was already split about 3 feet above ground. The whole project took about 3 hours and I’m so glad we got it done today. It was warm (for March 16th) and sunny and it felt good to be outside. Unfortunately, I think we’re both going to be sore tomorrow (because we already are!) but it’s worth it.
So, some people may have heard about our noisy, frequent, uninvited visitor. The visits actually began over the summer and at first we thought it was a squirrel. Chris put some moth balls into the area of the house where our free-rider was living and once we didn’t hear the little bugger for a while Chris crawled into the space and looked for the hole the animal was using. Unfortunately it was summer & steaming hot so he couldn’t spend too much time in there. A couple months ago we saw a raccoon in the yard and realized that it really wasn’t a squirrel…it was a huge raccoon! Scary!! Over the fall I don’t think he came to visit us too often, but as winter has been wearing on the visits have been more frequent.
Well, the breaking point was Sunday night. We were trying to go to sleep at a decent time even though daylight savings time was not making that very easy. Next thing I know there is a huge racket on the roof. Lots of scratching…Chris thinks the stupid thing may have fallen off the roof because a while later that night we heard a lot of crying from the attic. That was possibly the worst night of sleep I have had in my life…but for sure in the past few years. Monday Chris called an exterminator and the guy came to set live-traps on Tuesday. Guess what they use for bait ~ cat food! I’m not sure why the raccoon didn’t visit on Tuesday night but we woke up yesterday to empty cages. Last night is another story…we found a gigantic raccoon sleeping in one of the cages this morning! Hooray!
Raccoon
So I think the next steps are to get that raccoon off the roof & delivered somewhere far, far away and then patch up any access holes to the house. The exterminator guy said he will do it (for a pretty penny of course) and I think we’re going to go with that. I hate the idea of Chris being on the roof, especially when it’s slippery enough for a raccoon to fall off! If you look at the picture above, one of the holes is directly below where the cages are where the 2 roof lines meet. I guess you have to use wire to close the holes because if you patch it with a piece of wood the animals will just dig through again.
The only other thing we have to do is cut down the tree that was used to get up to the roof. I think that might be a project for us for Sunday, weather permitting. Anyway, I’m SO happy to have that guy gone. A peaceful night’s sleep for sure tonight.
My friend Jill had a great idea for her Wedding Dress and I wanted to share it. Most people wear their dress once and that’s it…pack the dress up and put it into storage. Maybe try to squeeze into it at your 25th or 50th Anniversary, but then again maybe not. Jill & her husband had a baby girl last fall and she took her wedding dress to a woman who made a baptism dress out of it! I think that’s a great idea!!
Here’s a picture of her adorable daughter, Ella, in her dress.
